Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 - 09 Jun 2008
Windows XP SP3 has been out for a few weeks now and we have been upgrading our Clients gradually. Mostly SP3 consists of Hotfixes, which sort problems with Security & Performance related issue's.

If you have Windows XP you should upgrade to the latest Service Pack, visit Microsoft Update now and download the latest updates for your PC.

The same goes for Windows Vista user's, SP1 is out now so run Microsoft Update and download now for the best protection.

Windows XP SP3 Release Dates - 16 Apr 2008
With Service Pack 3 for Windows XP just over the horizon, the internal schedule for the release of the highly anticipated update to the aging operating system. As you can see in the list below, most of the stages will occur before the end of the month, though forced automatic updates won't land until June. This delay should give system administrators an ample amount of time to prepare for the upgrade and iron out any Bugs before the main release Date.
  • April 14, 2008: Support is available for the release version of Service Pack 3 for Windows XP
  • April 21, 2008: Original Equipment Manufacturers, Volume License, Connect, and MSDN and TechNet subscribers
  • April 29, 2008: Microsoft Update, Windows Update, Download Center
  • June 10, 2008: Automatic Updates

Windows XP SP3 RC2 Refresh Available - 26 Mar 2008
A new "Refresh" version of Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate 2 was made available Tuesday on Microsoft Update, according to Microsoft representatives.

The primary goal of the release is for its developers to validate improvements to the Windows Update procedure, but a couple of minor additions were also included. As with the previous RC2, you need to download and run a small program available from Microsoft Download Center that makes a registry change on your PC in order for the update to be offered.

Windows Vista SP1 Released - 26 Mar 2008
Microsoft has released the Service Pack 1 update for its latest Operating System, Windows Vista. However Vista users looking for a host of new features will most likely be disappointed.

Promised mid-March, the Windows Vista Service Pack 1, weighing in at 434.5MB is an update to Windows Vista that "addresses key feedback from our customers".

Customers are able to download the update that also "addresses specific reliability and performance issues, supports new types of hardware, and adds support for several emerging standards".

According to the overview at Microsoft.com SP1 will focus "on addressing specific reliability, performance, and compatibility issues; supporting new types of hardware; and adding support for several emerging standards".

You can download Vista SP1 through Microsoft Update or from the Microsoft.com Download site.
